Iconic animal from WWI. John Simpson used donkeys to help carry the wounded to safety during the Gallipoli campaign in 1915, and his favourite was called Murphy. They worked fearlessly and tirelessly saving many Australian lives. Murphy received posthumously the RSPCA Purple Cross for his bravery and service to humans.
